Happy holidays!

Well I've been a bad blogger this month. December just kind of got away from me. I'm currently enjoying my last full day on PEI with my family. It's been really nice -- lots of relaxation and fun.

I was also blessed to receive some pretty fabulous presents this year.

  • I got some awesome red rubber boots so I can channel my inner child and go jump in some puddles, or slush for that matter because these babies are good for up to -15C!
  • I also was given a very cool new Hamilton Beach blender. It's very lovely super powered machine, with a nice glass container. I decided this would be a very needed tool to have in my healthy kitchen. It will replace my magic bullet, which is dying a slow, painful death and my current blender which is an el-cheapo from university. So excited to get home and get this set up in my kitchen.
  • I got lots of new David's Teas to keep my addiction alive and well.
  • And the last thing I'll mention are my super awesome glass straws from Strawesome. They are super fun and super Eco-friendly. Also can't wait to put these lovelies to use in my smoothies and other deliciousness.
Can't say that I've been eating that well. M&Ms and Quality Street chocolates have been my nemesis but only for another day... Refined sugar will be banished again very soon! I hope you're with me.

Happy New Year!

Easter weekend round-up

Happy belated Easter weekend to all! We spent the better part of the weekend in Georgetown, Guelph and Acton, Ontario visiting great friends and family. What a better way to spend the holiday! I got to spend lots of time with my newest little cousin, Kaden, who is now a whopping 9 months old and so much fun. Thanks to all who made my weekend spectacular. Love to all xoxo.

We also made a little side trip to Oakville because I wanted to visit their Whole Foods Market. What a beautiful store. We're getting on here in Ottawa in a few years. My review: Gorgeous and delicious food. The prepared food was so unbelievably appetizing it was hard to pick. Their cheese selection was superb as well. Lots of taste testing of products. However, you can find just about everything they sell already in Ottawa, you just may have to visit several stores to get it! Their dry goods could be mostly found at Loblaws in their Natural Value section. Good organic meats can be found at Farm Boy or Sasloves. And all the rest, including supplements, health and body care, and other dry goods can be found at great natural foods stores including Rainbow Foods and Natural Food Pantry. I will also note that their prices were more expensive than Loblaws pricing for the items that are carried there. Still a fun trip!

Today back to studying as my first course in my holistic nutrition program is wrapping up this week and I have two tests to study for. Back at it...

P.S. sorry for the lack of photos. I've got to get better at taking them. I've never been much of a photographer, but blogs without photos are boring, I know...

Happy New Year!

So 2010 is winding down and 2011 is a few short hours from appearing. We had a great Christmas vacation on PEI. Despite doing not much at all, it was nice to be home, relax, and pig out!

I wish you all the very best in 2011 as who knows what it will bring!

Until next year, I leave you with a cute photo of my step-kitty Belle in her favourite spot from the month of December: lounging on the soft fabric of the tree skirt, under the Christmas tree.

Christmas baking

I love to bake. Especially at Christmas. These are some treat a few friends received today or will receive in the next day or two...

Mini carrot cakes with loads of cream cheese icing. I tasted the icing, it's good. I have 3 mini bundt cake pans. They are fantastic, as you can make 3 mini cakes with one recipe. So this is only 2 batches! (I forgot to take photos before I wrapped them up for delivery. Excuse the toothpicks and plastic wrap.)

Also made some yummy peanut butter balls. I can also attest to them turning out just fine...

And finally, I made 2 3 pumpkin rolls. I might have made one two of these just for us!

Hope those who receive enjoy! I enjoyed making them!
